- Face: 70–80% of frame height, centered — use the oval guide
- Background: plain light grey or white — one click with the AI button
- Expression: neutral, mouth closed, eyes open, looking straight at camera
- Recency: within the last 6 months
- No: glasses glare (ideally no glasses), head coverings except religious, shadows

Common rejection reasons (avoid these)
- Photo older than 6 months or reused from your passport
- Busy background — fix with the AI background button
- Face too small in frame — zoom until it fills the oval guide
- Smiling — keep a neutral expression
